Caribbean Lowlands
Costa Rica’s Caribbean coast runs 125 miles (202 km) from the Nicaraguan border in the north to the southern border with Panama. The Caribbean lowlands are home to the well-known protected areas of Tortuguero National Park, Cahuita National Park and Manzanillo Wildlife Refuge, hot and very humid birdwatching hotspots with an average annual temperature of 26 º C.
Topographically speaking, this pristine region of Costa Rica is set between the Caribbean Sea and the foothills of the Talamanca mountain range, where the combination of heavy rainfalls, intense sunlight, high humidity and diverse altitudinal floors, create a wide range of microecosystems ideal for birding.
