Ocean & Mangrove Kayak tour
Kayaking is a great option for those wishing to explore Costa Rica’s coastlines in a quieter way, without the sound of a boat’s engine.
The eastern side of the Nicoya Peninsula offers calm waters ideal for kayaking. During this paddle you will be able to see the small islands and rock formations located inside Nicoya’s gulf, visit deserted white sand beaches where you can swim in their turquoise waters, or sunbathe on a beach fenced by thick forest while enjoying fresh tropical fruits and cold water.
Additionally, at high tide it is also possible to kayak along the brackish waters of a mangrove forest, where lots of waterbirds, iguanas and caimans cab be seen easily, and during their season (September – October), even whales can be spotted while kayaking in these serene waters.
During our kayak tours, it is also possible to see how the artisanal fishermen of the Nicoya Gulf catch their fish using sustainable fishing practices, such as handline fishing, since the area of the gulf where we kayak, has been declared as a Marine Area of Responsible Fishing. The main objective of these areas is to maintain the health of the marine and coastal ecosystems, since a healthy ocean, will benefit the socioeconomical development of the small Costa Rican fishing communities.
We offer this experience during early morning hours, or in the late afternoon for those wishing to enjoy the sunset while gliding across the water on a kayak.
