San Ramón & Central Mountain Range
San Ramón is located in the western side of the Central Valley, between Poás and Arenal Volcanoes, right where the Central Mountain Range meets the Tilarán Mountain Range. Its rich soils make it one of the best coffee growing regions of the country, turquoise waterfalls, hiking trails, picturesque small towns and farmers markets can be found easily in this region, without a doubt, San Ramón shows very well how Costa Ricans still live fairly simple in the rural areas, an authentic experience.
For nature lovers, hiking enthusiasts and birdwatchers, San Ramon offers two different ecosystems, the Cloud Forest in the highest part of its mountains and the Rainforest in the northern part of the county. Hiking trails can take you up to the Continental Divide from where Arenal Volcano and the Rainforest can be seen, or to the top of Cerro Azahar from where the Pacific Ocean can be observed. For those interested in discovering the creatures of the night, we offer a great nocturnal walk that explores the forest during the first hours of the nighttime. Expect to find kinkajous, sloths, spiders, tarantulas, frogs, birds, snakes, stick insects and more.
Another top attraction in this region is Los Bajos del Toro, this is a tiny town where waterfalls, rivers and blue pools are abundant. This town is one of the smallest towns in the country, with no residential neighborhoods or business centers, the landscape here is covered by crop fields and pastures dedicated to dairy farm. Those interested in Volcanoes and hot springs can count with Poas and Arenal Volcanoes, both located just one hour away from San Ramón.
Hotels in this region have been designed to take full advantage of Costa Rica’s breathtaking landscapes, creating an ambience of peace and solitude, combining simplicity and elegance. Lodges here are surrounded by mountain views, rivers, giant trees, lakes, gardens and the calls of birds, frogs and insects.
